PDF to Word and Excel, without sending it anywhere.

Most free converters work by uploading your file to their server. Keepsign converts on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, so a contract, a payslip or a medical report never leaves your hands.

01 Measured, not promised

99.9% of the words, in the right order.

We ran the Word converter over 474 real PDFs: 5,567 pages and 1.66 million words of contracts, forms, slides, reports and scans. Weighted by words, 99.89% came out in the right order in the editable layout, and 99.91% in the same-as-PDF layout.

02 Tables from paper

A photo of a table, straight into a spreadsheet.

Scan a printed statement or a receipt list and send the table to Excel or Numbers. Keepsign reads the rows and columns with Apple’s on-device text recognition.

Ambiguous values, like account numbers with leading zeros or dates, are kept exactly as written instead of being “helpfully” changed.

Where conversion is weaker

Pages with complex tables are the hardest: in our measurement they were the lowest group, 99.37% of words in order. In the editable layout, Keepsign only builds a Word table when it can read the table row by row with confidence; otherwise that part becomes plain paragraphs, in the right order. Magazine layouts will need some tidying in Word.

Questions

How do I convert a PDF to Word on a Mac without uploading it?

Use a converter that runs on your Mac. Our guide compares the ways to convert a PDF to Word on a Mac without uploading, including the free ones built into macOS and what they keep or lose.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Conversion uses only your device. It works in airplane mode.

Can I make a PDF from Word or a web page?

Yes, free: photos, scans, web pages and documents can be turned into a PDF. On Mac, Word, RTF, text and web pages are converted with macOS’s own document reader; Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers and Keynote files are best exported to PDF from their own app.
