Brush over the mark. Keep the print underneath.

Someone circled a word in red, a coffee cup left a ring, the form has two punched holes. Shade the mark with your finger, Apple Pencil or mouse, and Keepsign replaces it with the paper around it. The printed text stays.

What it removes.

BRUSH

Anything you shade

Paint over the mark and lift. With “Keep printed text” on, black and grey print under the brush is left alone.

BY COLOUR

Handwriting in blue, red, green or purple

Remove all the blue pen on a page in one go, and leave the red notes, or the other way round.

HIGHLIGHTER

Highlighter, not the text

The yellow goes; the words under it stay, and text recognition still reads them.

FOUND FOR YOU

Holes, staples, fingers

Keepsign finds punch holes, staples and fingertips at the edge and marks them before removing anything.

PAPER

Shadows and grey paper

Even out the shadow of a hand or a fold, and whiten paper that came out grey.

Snap to the mark

On the newest systems, your rough stroke snaps to the edge of the mark, so you don’t need a steady hand.

02 Nothing invented

It fills with your paper, not with guesses.

Erase marks doesn’t use generative AI to paint something new. What was a mark becomes the paper around it, so it can’t make up a letter, a number or a signature.

In our test page, a coffee stain over form lines left 0.2% of its pixels; a red pen circle around a word left 2.4%, with the word inside untouched. Pixels outside the shaded area didn’t change at all.

Like every change in Keepsign, it’s saved as an addition, the receipt lists each erased area, and on a signed document you’re warned first.

Erasing is not redacting

An erased mark is gone from the page you see, but the earlier version of the image is still inside the file, as with any incremental save. If you’re removing something private before sending, use a clean save or Ready to send, which rewrite the file without old versions. Keepsign offers both after erasing. And it only erases what you choose: there is no “remove watermark” button.

Questions

How do I remove pen marks from a scanned document?

In Keepsign, open the scan, choose Erase marks and shade the mark, or pick the pen colour to remove. Without Keepsign there are other ways, from scanner settings to photo editors; our guide on removing pen marks from scans compares them.

Can I undo it?

Yes. Undo returns the page exactly as it was, and since the original stays in the file’s history, you can also go back to an earlier version later.

Does it upload the scan?

No. It runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
